So he has now 12 golden ToM awards, 8 of them - during this year. XYY has got his second 3rd place in a row - alone now. His Calderlili proved once again that people love these small driveable pseudo-rwls.

Congratulations to every voted trackmaker and thanks to all 28 voters!

3rd July 2010 ToM Annual Elections 2009: Track of the Year

It's high time to start the Annual Elections!

In general, the Annual Elections of ToM are a special event. It includes ToY (Track of the Year) and PoY (Pack of the Year). The goal is to find the "best" track of the year and the "best" trackpack of the year.

For the 2009 election, we sadly won't have a PoY (Pack of the Year) election, because the infos about the packs of 2009 are mostly lost!

So now there will be only ToY.

28th December 2009 Race Sim Central Forums is History

Today the RSC staff has announced the tragic story that RSC's hard disks are damaged and it's very questionable that they can recover the data. Therefore, they won't open the forums again. (see previous news)

This is a really sad end of RSC, and after all those downtimes in the past years, it's really sad that they didn't even have any kind of backup. Well, at least the subsites are still online, but that's a cold comfort.

As the GeneRally community, including ToM, almost fully depended on the RSC forums, it's maybe a new start. Yeah, now we have neither RSC forums, nor the track database which is down since years. So for now we have no really big server pool with tracks. Well, ToM still has many of the best tracks, but this is not even one percent of all tracks I guess.

Well, enough the long read, the GeneRally story will go on. Maybe these are hard times, but we already have a international forum, right here:
http://grracers.000a.biz/
For ToM that means, we have to find a new, secure server for this site.
I hope that there will be no tragedy for GeneRally anymore. Let's do it better in future!

Best Regards for You and the whole GeneRally Community!
GeorgM

28th December 2009 [RSC] Important Announcement

[This is the original announcement posted on RSC forums today]

Dear Visitor,

As you will no doubt have gathered by now, the multiple hardware failures on our servers two weeks ago have caused us some serious problems. Not only did our forum server fail completely, according to our host's support department, but our backup server containing our regular backups of RSC data also experienced a failure at or around the same time. As yet, we don't know fully what caused the problems that have been described to us by our host, and we can't quite believe the 'bad luck' of having two servers die in one afternoon.

At present, our focus is on recovering as much data as we can from the damaged hard disks. We have purchased the various disks from the host, in order to pass on to a third-party data recovery firm. This could be an expensive process for us, and is certainly not one that we can guarantee will work, or that we can complete immediately. (To that end, if you work for a data-recovery firm, and can help in some way, please email community@racesimcentral.com).

So, what's the plan? Our plan is to close this chapter in RSC's history and announce the end of the RSC forum community in its various forms. This has been a difficult decision for us, but the road of the past 3-4 years has been leading to this point.

Back in RSC's heyday, we had many committed volunteers and supporters, who covered RSC's costs and took on various tasks such as developing a front-page, moderating the forums, maintaining our servers, etc. Over the yeras, this support has diminished, and for the last two years, RSC has been running on a skeleton crew, lacking the necessary skills to keep the community going, and struggling to 'break even' each month.

We wholeheartedly believe that this move is for the best, not only for our staff (who can hopefully get at least some of their free time back), but also for the community at large.

Our plan, should the data recovery process achieve anything significant, is to create a static mirror of RSC in its most recent state, to allow for reference and downloading of attachments - but this relies completely on the recovery procedure.

We hope that this doesn't turn out to be the complete end of RSC, but this chapter at least, is closing. We sincerely hope that you have enjoyed our 8 years of service to the sim-racing community, and that the knowledge and friendships gained here will continue to be of value to you for years to come.

Kind Regards,

Mikkel & James

Note: For the time being, our subsites will continue to be online - but we cannot guarantee that we can support this venture into the future. We advise that you look for hosting for your project elsewhere. We will make every effort to save sim-racing ventures and websites that are hosted on our servers, but are no longer actively maintained.

There are many elected tracks. No wonder, I would say, as there were many superb tracks in December! But sadly, most of the tracks got only one vote.

I noticed that the first 5 places consist of many artwork-tracks, such as landmap artwork, which is outstanding on the winner track! Seems like there are more and more fantastic looking tracks which are also nice to drive. Great!

Now look at this month! Seems like it's high season for tracks. With 27 elected tracks (and 29 in October) there's a pretty long list. And when we look at the statistics, we can see that there haven't been so many elected tracks for several years. Is this a claim of the system for more votes? But actually, we've just discussed about that.

Many congrats to DiSi! and Maciej1 who both won by far with 10 votes! I think it's in large part a fair result. Thank you for everyone who nominated and voted!

6th December 2008 November election

So, congratulations, especially to JaK GR, Markus Möller, AleksiNir and DiSi!

Dear GR community,

I wonder if you've noticed it, but I've overslept to say: Happy 5th Birtday ToM !!!
The Track of the Month project was started by LWing in July 2003. After 1.5 years, I took over his job as the ToM manager. I'm happy that ToM is still alive :-)

This election, there were 30 voters. Many thanks to them - the result is great! But maybe it's little bit unfair, as only tracks with at least 5 votes got it into the trackpack. IMO we should also discuss about the number of votes in the Forums.

Anyway, congrats to all successors - special congrats to Paw_PL and Bouncebackability who have now their first bigger success in ToM !

cheers

I'd like to congratulate every trackmaker who has got a track on the list, especially to the podium! IMO it's cool that there are also successful tracks with a smaller world size, e.g. Hohenlohe!
Some stats of this election: Similar to last year, there were 32 voters with overall 155 votes for 54 different tracks. Thank you to all voters who made this possible!

1st February 2008 ToM compo (S5) soon

Finally it's time for the Track of the Year (ToY) 2007 election, to get a list of the best tracks of 2007. This election lasts 3 weeks, and you are allowed to vote for up to 5 tracks.

Further information you can find on the ToY page, in the rules and in the thread.

detailed results

It's great to see once again a new trackmaker winning ToM the first time: future design. (Edit: sorry, it's his 2nd win!) Many congrats to you! He also broke two records in the ToM statistics: He is now the winner with the most votes with 17 votes. At the same time, he is the most popular winner: 85% of the voters voted for his track (17 of 20) ! Great work!
But with 15 votes, PitbullFIN is very close behind him. Congratulations to you, too!
Congrats to all other successful/upcoming trackmakers! :-)

I want to say thanks to everyone who has nominated any track or has voted in any month for ToM in 2007. I'm very happy with this year! Special thanks I want to say to Raska, who is IMO working even harder than me for ToM: His self-created ToM competition is a complete success, plus he's still the person who is reliable for the nominations. Many thanks, mate!

There's one thing I'd like to announce: please don't forget to vote for the Track of the Year 2007 ! In the ToY election we need even more voters than in the ToM elections to get a good result. I'll start the election tomorrow with explaining details.

And again a happy new year to the GeneRally community!
cheers, Georg

11th November 2007 ToM October election ended

Another election has ended, and I don't know what to say about the result... It's amazing that Rockingham won with 16 votes (!!) which means that more than half of all voters (28) voted for MiltonDuPont's track! This is outstanding, but also many other tracks got many votes (I think, because of the high-quality standard this month).

1) Rockingham Motor Speedway by MiltonDuPont - Forum thread
2) Ariel City Preview by GRB - Forum thread
3) Ground 8 circuit by Ms... - Forum thread
3) Zakspeed by future design - Forum thread

1) Sugo Sportlands by MiltonDuPont - Forum thread
2) Sirkel by Gr8player - Forum thread
3) Platopolis by Joint Effort Team - Forum thread

detailed results

As you can see that Platopolis, the track by the Joint Effort Team, is 3rd, which is IMO a big success, because it's often hard to create a track in a group of 10 trackmakers. So I mean that it's great that finally the Joint Effort Team has reached this! Many congrats! The only problem is: who gets the award? LOL

3rd September 2007 ToM August election starts

Happy 4th Birthday, Track of the Month!

Yes, it's true: ToM exists already 4 years, thanks to the founder LWing, who sadly isn't active in this forum anymore, and unfortunately I can't reach him by email. But of course he did a good thing when he has founded ToM in 2003. ;-)

This year the "special event" to celebrate the anniversary is already over: The ToM Competition, organized by Raska. It was a very successful event and we will probably repeat this event more often. Many thanks to Raska for organizing this compo, and of course thanks for his work as the nomination-poster! He is a really great mate! :-)

If you wonder what's that navigation on the top doing (though the feedreaders can't see that), then you get the answer now: it's made for the ToM competition that will start tomorrow (on Monday), because it's a login compo.
Now this login is just for the compo, but it'll probably used for more things in future.

By the way, it's still not too late to join. So far there are 27 participants and I'd like to speak out many thanks to Raska who has organized this so well!

Congrats to everyone! I've heard it from many guys: the choice was hard. Can I say that's a problem? No, of course not! LOL. It's great to have many good tracks, but it's more difficult to win an election.

By the way, Raska and me are planning a ToM racing competition on (probably) one track out of each ToM pack from 2006 - all in all 12 tracks. We will give more information soon: in the competition forum and on the homepage.

Another thing: for those who haven't noticed it yet, there is now a RSS newsfeed for the ToM news. This newsfeed can also be used as a reminder for ToM elections, as I add news at the beginning of each election (from now on). I hope that some guys will use this. :-)

11th February 2007 Track of the Year 2006 results

After an official election duration of 3 weeks (and inofficial 4 weeks) I can proudly present what many GRers were waiting for: the results of the Track of the Year 2006!

1) Stockholm by Crowella

2) Roof Terror by Garbre

3) LurceCity by PitbullFIN
3) Nahopo by Tizio
3) Runnola by Gr8player

all results

I want to congratulate you to your wins! But there are also 56 other good tracks that got elected! ;-) Half of them got at least 2 votes and Stockholm even reached 11 votes! (Last year: 4 votes) As you can see, the 5-votes rule shows good effects! :-) But there were also much more voters: last year it were 19, this time it were 31 ! Due to that, the result is better staggered IMO.

So it's also necessary to say thanks to all the voters who make a good election possible, and of course to all your help e.g. nominating or suggesting rule-changes like the 5-votes rule *thumbsup*. Cheers!

20th January 2007 ToY Rules changed

Another win by Markus. No surprise, isn't it? ;-)

Now the number of voters is rising:
March: 14 - April: 19 - May: 22
Great! Thank you for all your votes!

From now on the nomination page the screenshots are bigger. So far we used 150x112px images, now it's 200x150px - I hope that's ok. Now you can see the track better.
In addition, the number of images per column is relative to the browser width. This avoids a horizontal scroll-bar in small browsers.

Thank you for voting! It is great to create the ToM results if many people vote *thubmsup*

A little note: Kory Miller is no longer ToM helper. Now Markus Möller posts the nominations on the website. So plase send your nominees to Markus - Kory won't be able to post them.

Another ToM election has ended. Have a look at the results:

1) Blasko by Mikey B - Forum thread

the result

Congratulalations to everyone! Nice to see that also small tracks like Corkscrew and Vortex can get on the podium. :-)

This month only 14 people voted. I recognized that last summer we had the voter-peak: 29 votes in June. Since then the number of voters has decreased (except Jan'06). You can see that in the ToM statistics.

17th February 2006 ToM January Election ends

The ToM January results are now posted, you can find them here.

I'm again very happy about the result. 18 people voted, but the number of elected tracks was pretty small - 12. This small number leaded to a very clear result. You can see that also very nice in the ToM statistics; this election is the new election with the strongest podium - 60 % of the votes were votes for podium tracks:

1) Porto Pollo by Markus Möller (13 votes)
2) Circuito do Estoril by Crowella (10 votes)
3) Monkton by Mikey B (6 votes)

BTW they all have got a Track Master award ;-)

All other tracks got 4, 3, 2 or 1 vote(s).
Congrats to everyone whos track got elected!

27th August 2005 ToM Competition: Year 2

The 2nd Track of the Month competition started. Like last year we host a competition to look back to the 2nd year of ToM and enjoy all the winner tracks in a race championship. I hope there will be many participants. The mode is a bit rallye-stylish - means that the champion is the driver with the less overall time. But it's better you read all informations in the Anniversary section. There's also a thread on RSC. You can find it here.

First deadline is September 4th. See you on the track!

20th March 2005 Special Event: Track of the Year 2004

The ToY (Track of the Year) is an special event of ToM (Track of the Month). Track of the Year just means that the winning track is the best liked track in a year.

I got several PMs with suggestions for a Track of the Year, so we decided to found this special election. Finally it's time for voting.
The voting rules are the same as for ToM-elections, with the difference that the subject should be like 'ToY vote', of course.

Please click here for more information about the Track of the Year

12nd March 2005 Results of February online

The ToM got 2 new managers. GeorgM and Aeon took over the job as the ToM manager from the founder LWing, who organized and managed ToM for 18 months! Thank you for everything!
In the future you will have to nominate via PM to Aeon. The votes you'll send to GeorgM, who will post the results.

The next ToM election will be called " ToM Dec'04/Jan'05 ". This means that all tracks of December 2004 and January 2005 can take part. To have it easier to vote, you can nominate your favourite. We hope for your help.

13rd January 2005 Results of November released

The downtime of the forum came right in the time of voting and I wanted to give a few days more so everybody has his chance to vote. But now it seems that our forum doesn't come back soon and I couldn't wait any longer. So I published the results. You know where you can find them... Congratulations to the winners.

8th January 2005 RaceSimCentral Temporary Forums

RaceSimCentral Forums are still down. Visit the Temporary Forums:
http://rsc.vadertrophy.com/forums/viewforum.php?id=14

24th December 2004 RSC Downtime

Unfortunately the RSC Forum is still down, after over 2 weeks of downtime.
This means that the ToM November is postponed until RSC is back again.
We decided that you can vote this year, but next year you can't. If you vote you can send an email to LWing (lwing@gmx.net) or to GeorgM (martin.kimmerle@arcor.de).

10th November 2004 And the Winner of October is... / New Host

Whiplash created by JimmymetaL. The voters decided that this was the best track of October and saw Mine X (Genetleman), Panzarotti (zombie), The Motoplex (Canadiens 1160) and What a Mess in the Bathroom! (Naufr4g0) on the following podium places. Congratulations guys and a very big thank you to all voters. 24 people are only 1 below the record. And because we are on topic: Canadiens equalled Markus Möller effort to get 14 votes in one month. Well done! Detailed results can be viewed in the according section.
As you perhaps noticed: We switched to a new host and thus we are able to offer all the trackpacks at this page now. I want to thank GeorgM very much, who organised the new host - but much more important - who programmed all the php-scripts, which support us to handle the page in the future. Thanks pal.

11th October 2004 Results of September online

The last election saw a long and constant track contributor taking the vistory: nielske. It's a bit curious because the participation was by accident. Usually his track Portland was supposed to take part in October. Anyway, I think the majority of the GR-community is happy about this success. The podium was completed by Bahrain by Gábor Kozma and JimmymetaL's Kaiowa. So congratulations to you all.
As always the complete results can be found in the results section. Thanks to all trackmakers, nominating persons and voters.

22nd September 2004 Trackmaker competition ended

It was a nice competition with lots of nice contributions. And in the end, the guy whose idea it was won it also. Congratulations to Aeon, who created Lakewai Speedway - a clear and worthy winner. But also my repect to all other trackmakers who took the challenge. There were really orignal and diversified tracks. It was a pleasure to host this compo and I would say it was a real succes. Only the amount of votes could have been higher.

10th September 2004 Election of August finished

Actual election ended today. Dover won this round and Piet's Book GP and Samuel_BR's Shanghai placed both 2nd and completed a nice looking podium. Participation was good again and the fact that this happens now quite regulary really satisfies me. Besides the award, of course. For the complete listing of the results have a look at the concerning subsection.

6th September 2004 ToM anniversary competition takes chequered flag

Yesterday the birthday racing competition held it last events. As it was predictable quite early robylu the dominating driver of this small championship took the victory. He was the fastest on our 87,776 kilometres long journey with a total average speed of 126,51 km/h. This is over a minute faster than the followers. Congratulation to the victory, robylu! Of course all results can be found in the 1st Anniversary section.
I want to thank the few people who joined and I hope you had fun.
A small reminder: There is one week left to create a track for the Circuit an Oval Track Design Competition.

18th August 2004 ToM hosts first special event

On Aeon's initiative Track of the Month will realise its first special event: Aeon's Circuit an Oval Track Design Competition. Take part in that interesting trackmaker competition. You find everything you need to know in the new Special Event subsection.

11th August 2004 July

18 votes, 5 podium tracks and on winner. That are the short stats of the last election. Markus Möller is the second one who could celebrate a back-to-back win. But it's not enough for Markus to put Hundsbuckel at the top of the podium. He also claimed the 2nd place with his track Panamericana V2. Classic GP by Piet, Magny Cours by Gábor Kozma and Underpass by Naufr4g0 shared the third place. For the full results visit the results section.
The voting attendance was good and I thank everyone for voting and nominating. Now hail to the king of July and congratulation to all the other succeful authors for their superb releases.
Now it's nominating time again. So watch the forums!

23rd July 2004 ToM competition changes deadlines

Because of private reasons I won't be able to check racefiles for the next week. Thus I thought it would be better to give you this time to race. Also the time of the last day was changed to give the GR racers from America a better possibility to take part. Now deadlines will generally end at 5:00 GMT (1:00 EST).
This means the deadline for Nov8 and Arente but also for Nazareth and Assen is August 1st: 5:00 GMT.

20th July 2004 ToM Anniversary competition is underway

The first two rounds of the competition are finished. Both runs were won by robylu. Congratulations for that. He leads the championship by 1,343 seconds.
Next rounds will take place at Strava's Nov8 and Flying_solo's Arente. Deadline for submission is next Sunday, 24:00 CET.
Note, that it's not too late to join. You will get 107% of the time of the last finisher for the missin rounds.

11th July 2004 ToM Anniversary competition ready for take-off

Gentlemen, start your engines! Today I made the last update before the competition starts. Because there were no replies from Tedminator and Piet, I moved their tracks to the back of the schedule. This means, we start with my Estoril and ChillyDog's Ile De Quebec. Deadline to submit the files for this two races is next Sunday, 24:00 CET.
Because of yesterday's extraordinary result the competition will last two weeks longer than expected, provided that all permissions will come in time. I wish you lots of fun and good luck.

10th July 2004 Election of July finished - Congratulations to the winners

The election ended today and we have a constellation we never had before: with GP-Pantanal by vira lata, Greutleswald by Markus Möller, Imola 1967 by sgoodwin and IseoLake by chesterfield there are four winners. I thought this can only happen, when only few people vote, but this wasn't the case. With 18 voters we surely are back in the green region. I selfishly allege that this is caused by the new website with the new representation of the nominees, which makes me happy and is a satisfaction for the work it was. Anyway, congratulations to all winners but also to the followers. It stands out, that there is a wave of new authors. Nice to see that. You can see the full results here.
With the end of the election Track of the Month completes its first year. As announced I have calculated some statistics which you can read here. It's another look on the elections and it was made for fun. Don't forget the competition which starts next week. Problems and suggestions can be discussed in the forums in this thread. There were little changes in the schedule. We now race 2 races per week only. I hope you participate.
Of course the nominees page was reseted and is now open for new entries. To nominate simply write a personal message to me in the forums.

3rd July 2004 ToM welcomes you at its new home

Today, with the start of the election of June, the brand new homepage of the GeneRally Track of the Month went online. We can proudly present you the source in ToM matters. You can find everything here concerning ToM and a little bit more. New and old results, actual nominees, rules and so on.
And even if you don't know anything about Track of the Month, what you should change immediately, and only look for really good GeneRally tracks - this page will help you. We offer you the trackpacks from all elections (Well, we have to link to the forums at the moment, but as soon we have enough webspace we will offer them directly.) and if you can't get enough we have a collection of links to all the websites of the succesful authors.
There are still some small things to do. But basically you already have evrything you need. If you find a mistake then please send an e-mail to me.
Please have a look at the upcoming racing competition. All information about it can be found in the "1st Anniversary" section.
I like the new page and I hope you like it too.
